Ok to make a long story short, I've been battling with a disease for the last two weeks which I think has been around for a few months but has finally taken a strangle hold on my 40gallon tank.
In my 10 gallon I had mollies which I raised myself, 4 of the 7 died with the same symptoms, this white fungus like stuff hanging off their skin, fins and such. I noticed that all of the fish would have pieces of their tails and fins missing which at times look like their whole tail was totally eroded away!
So I treated that tank with melafix and salt for a few weeks and the diease went away, I saved 3 of the mollies and moved them to another tank upstairs with their fry. All is good in that tank! The 10 gallon is now home to some African Cichlids which also seem fine.
BUT my 40 gallon tank is a far different story. So far all of the fish that have died had the same symptoms, their fins went away, like something was eating them, then their would get these white patches or white stuff hanging from their skin, the fish would loose their balance and not be able to swim and would stop eating. Eventually every fish that has gotten this had died except one! It seems one of my mollies that I moved fought it off.
The diease is not biased.
-Pleco (his fins had holes in them and he couldn't swim) 4 days and he was dead
-Guppy
-Swordtail
-2 Danios
Now one of my angelfish has it, hes a huge marbel black healthy angelfish, he has this stuff hanging off his fins, he seems fine right now but I fear the worst. It looks like he has fungus growing on him.
It kind of looks like Flexibacter? But the symtoms aren't matching up totally?
From the first sign of diease, the fish usually die in 3-4 days. They deteroate fast, really fast.
I'm treating with salt, melafix and pimafix as well as lowered temperature. Also 25% daily water changes.
Any ideas?
