It's called Project Noah.
Basically you take photos of plants and animals living where you are (or visit), and submit the photo with the name of the organism, and some info on it, on their website, and the location on the google map where it was found (where you were when you took its photo), so others know where it lives. All you need is a Google account, but that's it. It also is for the i phone too so you can submit photos via wi-fi or 3g network if you dont have a camera handy.
I think it's really great and easy to do, plus in the end you are helping nature by keeping track of where they live, who knows, you might find a species that was thought to be extinct in your area? That would be the coolest part if it happened.
