Both male, If you look at the anal fin, the end of the anal fin goes past the junction with the body and tail. In a female the anal fin never passes the body / tail junction.

Nice rams though!

Thanks for that is it a problem having 2 males one of them gets chased around not too much though i did want male and female gutted now

What size tank do you have them in? I have ended up with 4 males (long finned was not sure if rule was the same) in my 55g, I have seperated 2 off and am selling them on friday, there did not seem to be enough space territory wise to comfortably house any more than 2, I perhaps could have got away with 3 but did not want to risk it, there were constant battles as they are nearing maturity now. I have females for them but they are much smaller just keeping 2 of them aswell. It is a bit difficult at the moment to find females about, went to 5 lfs at weekend looking at marine stock but looked at the rams aswell, only 2/5 had any females at all.

there in a 110l ill have a look around for female and get rid of a male see how things work

Probably the best way to go with the size tank you have. If the fish has a pink belly it will be female, check the anal fin though to make sure.
Here is a picture of a young female for you to look at before going to LFS.

Notice how short the anal fin is and the slight pink tinge to stomach area.

Tigerlssey,

What are those fish in your signature - they are beautiful. Are they mature bolivian or german rams? If so how long does it take on average to look like that?

Hi, the rams in my signature are Long finned German Blue Rams and are both males. I bought them at the beginning of december and the picture was taken on 30th January. They are exceptional looking rams, the best I have ever had. I bought them from Maidenhead aquatics in Blackpool, I don't normally buy any of the varietys that have been bred for specific traits such as long finned or balloon rams however when I went in these beautys had just come on sale. There were a tank of about 30 - 40 fish and I could not resist them. I need to take some more photos soon as you would not believe this, They actually have a hell of a lot more colour now. Still not completely fully grown but the red fringing on the dorsal fin is vivid, there are so many colours on them now, blues to purples and the colour is deep.

Thanks for the compliment aswell.

EDIT word missed out.
