yes, first i'll introduce the reason i'm asking questions!
Firefly - unbreeding Sunburst male
Zane - overbreeding Blue-and-Red Wag male
Hexadecimal - variatus female
Baby Kiss - tiny Black female
Mishka-Ishka - first Platy-fishie Twin Bar female
Polly - second Platy fishie pregnant Mickey Mouse female
Four fry - 3 month old Twin Bars, 1 three-week-old Black
q1: Firefly won't breed! it's strange, i've had him three weeks and nothing. i watch these fish a ton, and he just doesn't care. he's a loner boy, never tried to get to Zane's females, or Baby Kiss, he just doesn't care! i read that too-long gonopodium's reduce the breeding capabilities of males, and he's got a long one. perhaps that's why?
q2: Zane is too enthusiastic. he's been smacked three times by Hex, twice by Polly, and bitten by Mishka, and he still loves them. i can always find him strutting around the tank, tail folded and shimmering, dorsal fin swept back, little goateed face bubbling away happily. the Girls don't want anything to do with him, would adding some new girls and boys help? (according to territory and parameters i am not overstocked.)
q3: Hex has a very dark spot on her tummy, but she isn't pregnant. i know this because when i got her she was the same size she is now, and she always had that spot. i bought her because i thought she was pregnant, but since she's a variatus d'you think it's just her spawning patch? will she be able to breed with my normal Platy-boys?
q4: i asked this before, and got little in the way of an answer. two of my Twin Bar fry, the largest, are beginning to 'duke it out'. they swim around it each all curled up, then smack the other with their tails. could this permanently harm either of them? also, these two have somethingfunky goin' on with their anal fins. the front/bottom rays are growing in stronger and thicker. i have no clue when they should start growing their gonopodiums, so if that's not it what is going on?
