My mum bought me 2 shrimp when she went out earlier, she said they had told her they were bumble bee shrimp. Is this true? I have added a decent picture of one cleaning the rubber anenome.

Edit - Oh no. A quick search just after I posted this says they aren't bumble bee shrimp... What are they?

They are the same as what i have in my 30L tank..was told at my local (chain) LFS that they were 'common' or 'grey' shrimp.. i researched and i was quick to realise they are Ammano shrimp (?).

Terry.

PS- Do not put any small Red Cherry Shrimp (under 1/2 months old) in there if you have any male ones..they'll see them as 3 for 5 British quid snacks!

OK, So Amano shrimp. Well that's not what I asked for originally but I hope they'll be OK. Are the predatory?
I've got all the research on bumble bee shrimp and I get amano shrimp!

Amano's aren't predatory they are exclusively algae eaters and they also don't breed in freshwater if you were planning to have a self sustaining population you will need to go brackish and jump through some hurdles.

Taffy you probably have some paleomonetes or machrobrachium sp. shrimp not amano's easily confused as "ghost shrimp or grey shrimp". Amano's aren't predatory but will eat fresh corpses  if the opportunity presents itself. They also have a series of dots/dashes along the bottom of their external carapace normally of a dirty (brown) green colour which are not their legs showing through when they are content.

OK, thanks for that. Your description of amano shrimps sound like mine. Now that they have settled in they have lot's of dots along their sides. I have 2 males no females, I don't want to breed them which is why I chose 2 males. They're named Pip and Squeak.

They only breed in brackish so you can get a couple of females they are giants :)

They only had 1 female and she was huge compared to the 3 males they had, until I bought 2 males.

Some more pictures of my very adventurous shrimp! One of them loves swimming up the side of the tank and climbing the red fake plant while the other goes no further up than the raised rocks on the bottom.
