I am setting up a 30 gallon tank. I want to get live rock but i cant yet afford it. I am going to put the fish in and the eventually when i can afford it i will buy a lighting system and the live rock. Can i add the live rock after i add the fish? How many pounds of live rock will be good for my tank? How many watts per gallon is reccomended? Is it true that the live rock helps filter the water?

Reading the pinned posts would be very helpful to you. Takin gup SW is a big step and it will be hard to cut corners due to lack of money so perhaps you need to re think how your going to do this after the reading the pinned articles.

if you can't do it properly the first time, don't cut corners and risk your fishs health, wait a few months until you can do it proparly

or u can buy half livve rock and half dead rock. or u might to have a little more live rock, but anyways the dead rock with the help of live rock will eventualy turn to live rock! it will take along time tho. i have 19 pounds of dead rock aand 9 pounds of live. there is the same amount in but my dead rock is really heavy compared to the live rock.

Right. Live rock is only called so, because of the organisms living on it. Any rock you put into your tank will eventually become covered in these organisms, and will be "live."
