I have purchased some new additions for my nano today; a toadstool and a purple plate coral. I have noticed that with the toadstool came a beautiful little hitchhiker which I am unable to put a name to. I initially thought it looks like a LPS but maybe an anemone. Can anyone identify this beautiful little coral/ anemone??

Many thanks

Regards

just looks like a local anemone. See how big it gets over the ext few months. it shouldn't be a problem. Looks like it's going to be green too, that's pretty cool :)

Are the stems soft or do they contain hard skeleton? I'll agree it definitely looks like a nem of some sort, but hard to say really until it's more expanded/happy.

Today my new 'hitchhiker' anemone died; half eaten by my sea urchin. The urchin is Diadema setosum species and I have never heard in all the literature I have read and conversations I've had that they eat sea anemone. Anyone else experienced this? It is ironic that the very thing I got the urchin for is exactly what it isn't doing and is instead mutilating the other tank inhabitants. It is really annoying since I was looking forward to watching how the anemone (if that indeed was what it was) developed but instead I have had to remove it from the tank for fears that it's carcass will pollute the water.

Oh well such as life........

i had 1 of them anenmones in a mushroom coral and my royal sea urchain eat it they grow big

I've heard of urchins going after people when they reach in to mess around w/the tank (I know they don't have eye's, but they have other sensors.) One guy in my lrc said he was changing up his tank and had his girlfriend watching the urchin for him. Said when he stuck his extremeties in the tank the urchin would go right for him... I heard the story when he was telling the biologist (that's where he got the urchin from).
