Hi thought up some marine questions whilst i was waiting for everyone else to finish an exam. I have decided to go for a 6x2x2 fish only tank which i will slowly set up through out the summer.

I have a load of spare equipment and a spare 30 gallon tank and i was wondering if i should set it up and run it until i get my larger tank set up. That way i would have a good chunk of seeded filter media some sand and things like that. It will also give me a chance to get some macro algae growing and also get me more familiar with the general running if the tank. Good idea or bad idea? could also use it as a QT tank when im getting new fish.

Also i was wondering what would i keep in it to keep it running and keep the bacteria going? Black Mollies? some species of hardy SW fish?

I had some more questions but they have slipped my mind and i will post them when i remember them.

thank you

It might be a good idea to get you used to keeping the salinity at good levels (get a feel for the evaporation rate), plus maybe satiate some of your excitement about running a marine aquarium :)

You could use mollies or a damsel of some sort. Or you could add a few drops of ammonia. Or, since there *will* be critters like bristleworms in the LR, you could drop in little sinking pellets and watch them come out to get them. This will probably be one of the few opportunities where you'll see the smallest animals in your tank when they're not afraid to come out.
