One of the members of LadyMinion's (non-fish) forum has a Betta called Gerry.
She knows next to nothing about fishkeeping but is eager to do the right thing for Gerry.
We've already educated her about water conditioners and water changing, but she's still having some trouble.
Your assistance would be appreiciated.

Here's what she wrote:

A few days ago I cleaned his tank out and put him back where he has been over these past months. I notice he hasn't eaten, and the water got cloudy so I recleaned him again and he has been staying up by the top of the tank these past few days. I'm worried about him.

This is what I've been using at this time because when I got Gerry it seems to do the trick for him and he had a spit fin on the buttom of his body and when I used the product ... BettaFix Remedy it worked, took it about two to three weeks for the spit to heal.

I also use the Betta Complete Water Conditioner to condition the water.

So now I am very worried that he may be sick, he hasn't eaten that I could see because most of the food that I left him went to the bottom and he didn't even see that they were there.

I know it's the summer and maybe he might need to be cleaned more often because of the heat and the nasty stuff that could come out of the water that he is in.

Any one got any ideas what is wrong with Gerry, I looked over his fins and they look fine, his face looks clear and his color looks fine. I'm just worried that when I turn the light on him I may find him dead and I don't think I can handle another lost at the moment.

A Worried Mother... :(

PS. So far Gerry is alive, but not sure if he is well, he hasn't made the bubble nests like he use to that is how I went in knowing if he was doing well or if he was happy. He has been up at the top breathing in the air, but when the bubbles are made they pop, before they didn't.

I've asked her for a little more information, such as the size of Gerry's tank, whether it has a filter, how often she does water changes, what she feeds him and how often etc.

Thanks for your help people. :D

Tell her to make sure the 'betta complete' removes/locks ammonia, especially if she has chloramine in her water. In an unfiltered/uncycled tank it breaks down into ammonia quickly.
It also could be that he just doesn't like his food. Make sure she offers a wide variety, frozen etc. Keep his water clean and don't keep him too hot or too cool.

Some more info would definitely be needed here, like you said. Tank size, water change frequency, temps. Sounds like he's depressed or something... and like Wuv said, try some different food for some excitement. Live brine may be fun for him.
