Is it OK to keep a tetra on it's own in a hospital tank?  I actually need to move three, so that's not quite the situation I'm facing, and I feel relatively relaxed about that number, but as a general principle, I wonder if it's better overall to move one tetra to a tank on it's own for treatment, or whether the stress of being isolated will be more harmful in some circumstances than the disease itself?

Clearly, it's also about protecting the other fish in the main tank. I've got a bit of a fungus problem going, and using Melafix seems to have prevented any further spread, but isn't shifting it from the ones who do have it. As there are shrimp in the main tank, I'm going to give the fungus a more hardcore treatment away from the shrimp. In the event I cure these ones, but then some pops up again on the others, I'd like to be prepared with an understanding of how best to separate out a schooling fish for treatment.

Thanks for any thoughts

it is a difficult problem. Personally, I don't put just one tetra in the hospital tank, I always put two in, as I do feel they get stressed alone, but that's a totally personal view; I wouldn't condemn anyone for just treating the sick fish.
