Then if this is the case he may simply have gone from old age combined with soft water. Many store guppies only live 6-18 months, and if he was already grown when you got him he could have been older, or even still if you got him as a younger fish, still is within the "normal" lifespan of most store bought mass bred guppieshe was one of my original fish so I had him for a year now

I'm leaning towards corydoras ambiacus. Some also lack markings in the dorsal which yours shows.
