Today at the LPSs I found two dead Bettas. But that's not the worst thing. One was still hanging in there the poor little bugger. He literally had a woolley beard of fungus. I was disgusted and confronted the person in the fish department, and he just made a joke about it. He was just alive panting at the surface. To the assistants defence though he took him out and treated him in front of me, but he must have disposed of him after I left as when I returned later he and that Betta were gone.

There isn't any room in those cups for the bettas to move they literally only cover the surface of the Betta's with water and have them in the smallest cups I've ever seen. The boys literally cant straighten their bodies out, and fins are never out. Such cramped conditions. Any way, I have complained about that and they did move them from those smaller cups to slightly larger, but what's the point when they don't fill up the cups to capacity anyway?? :grr:
OK that's my rant. Unfortunately they have the largest amount of native fish for sale I've seen. I usually only buy hardware from them because they are the cheapest for miles...

I'm getting to the stage though I just don't want to buy there either...running out of places that are OK

That poor, poor Betta. Good for you for calling them on it, though.

Go in there on a regular basis.
VERY intentionally pick up EVERY single cup and examine every fish - and make sure someone that works there is watching, or at least aware you're doing this. If you see ANYTHING, point it out! And do this on a regular basis. Eventually, they'll get tired of you coming in and making them take care of their sick ones, so they'll start taking care of them so you have NOTHING to complain about.

Trust me, I do this all the time.
Unfortunately, with hellMart... OOPSy, I mean WalMart... there's never anyone that cares or is around to tell - and even then, they don't treat their sickies so eventually with a store like that the only hope for them is to drag them home.

BUT - in other stores where they have staff that is capable of treating them, it will make a difference. You'll be the person they talk about on their breaks, they'll probably complain about you and grumble and roll their eyes when you walk in the door, but I guarantee you they'll pay more attention to the bettas.

I'd call the store and make a complaint myself, but that's overseas from me.
GO Get em!
