I have two clown loaches in my 32 gallon aqarium, for at least 6 months now. They've been healthy ever since they moved in, and survived such adventures as a complete tank teardown. My Tiger barbs, bought 1.5 years ago probably won't survive past April; they're starting to get old... They're entertaining fish, but it's been a struggle to keep them happy, and I don't think I'll be getting more. So, I'm thinking of getting a third loach.
Once the Tiger Barbs are gone, the only fish in the tank will be a Blood Parrot (A refugee from my dad's 55 gallon tank, where he was abused by his tankmates), an apistogramma and a couple otocinclus (which don't really contribute to the nitrogen; they just eat alage).
I know they will get big, and will be moved to a 2' by 2' by 5' tank (Roughly 200 gallons) within a year or two.
So, the basic tank plan is
3 (or 4) clown loaches
1 Blood Parrot (Who barely eats, btw; he hides in his cave most of the time, so not as much nitrogen as you'd expect from him)
3 otocinclus
3 Kribensis, but they breed like rabbits, so expect more, although some can be moved to other tanks.
I'm going to breed some Neon Tetras, so there may be as many as 15 of those.
Think that's too much?
