I bought a chocolate Pleco a couple of weeks back and learned about a week ago that they NEED bogwood to live out a healthy life so naturally I bought a big hunk of it at Petco and dropped it in. I decided not to soak it because you don't really have to. No reason to really......came from a very reliable sourse... ! Thanks again CFC!!!

I just read that bogwood softens water, which is good for the pleco, but is it okay for my other fish?? Or is it such a subtle change that it won't matter?? In the tank with the pleco I have 4 Silver Dollars, 2 AngelFish and 1 Gold Gourami.

Man, I really do learn an incredible amount from this forum. Glad to be a part of it!

Cheers :*)

Your silver dollars and angelfish will love you for it, it will be just like going home to the amazon for them  gouramis arent fussed about how hard or soft the water is as long as its not at the extreme ends of the scale. However unless you already have reasonably soft water one piece of bogwood isnt going to make any measurable difference, i have about 40 lbs of bogwood in my main tank and the water still sits at pH 7.5-8 with a hardness of around 20 dGH.

shouldn't worry those particular fish Silver

....unless your water is very soft to start off with bogwood doesn't normally cause a problem. Regular w/changes mean that the water doesn't get too soft

....the only thing you can get is the water getting a yellowish tinge to it and if you put some carbon in the filter for a day or two that will take it out

love to see some pics of the new fish

Good!!
I have a pretty healthy aquarium and I'd like to keep it that way. I will try and get some pictures of the little guy!! He is SOOOOO cute. I mean, usually when you see plecos they are next to HUGE, but this guy is 2 inches long.......and to tell you the truth he look Albino?? :look:
