I currently have a 65 gallon tank (48x18x18). It has 4 Tiger barbs... I was at my local fish store and they have a snowflake eel ( wicked looking guy ). And was wondering if anyone knew if i had the space for him and will the Barbs be bad for him or food...or will it work out ???

Thnx fer any replies :D

Snowflake Eels are brackish and need caves. The tiger Barbs will die either because of the brackish water or the Eel will eat them. I would try to remove the barbs as eels will sometimes only eat live and they get the taste for it. Try to keep it feeding on frozen food. The tank sounds fine size wise. I would just add some salt (read the packet to get it brackish, think it is 1 teaspoon per 5 g) and then let the tank cycle. If you are gonna get the fish, PRE-ORDER IT NOW. Then you will not be disappointed when youhave put in sooo much work and it is gone.

Snowflake Eel (Echidna nebulosa). Is this the fish?

Snowflake Eels or Freshwater Moray Eels are Brakish water fish that will eat smaller fish like Barbs and can reach up to 28" or more. They are a predatory bottom dweller that requires plenty of shelter for hiding. A carnivore, this eel's diet consists mainly of crustaceans such as shrimps and crabs, but it may eat smaller fish if the opportunity arises. Unlike other moray species that have sharp pointed teeth for grasping onto prey, even though the Snowflake Eel has blunt or flattened teeth designed for grinding up shelled invertebrate prey, primarily crabs, shrimps and mollusks, it nonetheless has a nasty strong bite.
