Okay these little buggers just keep coming and coming. I've thrown out 3 of them, and now I see 2 more. Where the hell are they coming from? Are they growing on my plants? will they continue to spawn or will they stop eventually?

If you've put in new plants recently they probably came from them. If there is a food supply they will likely continue to populate the tank. You can try putting a piece of vegtable in the tank (zuchini, cucumber, spinach, etc) at night then in the morning take it out with all the little snails on it (hopefully). Also look for little gel like substances on the glass or plants or decor, these would be snail eggs, scrape them off and discard.

I actually like snails in my tanks, they do an awesome job of keeping the tank clean and eat any uneaten food. I keep Ramshorn snails and Apple/Mystery Snails.

If you seem to have a snail problem, get a snail eater... like a yoyo loach.
Please dont just offer advice like that...
YoYo's can get to 8" !! Way too big for most small tanks!

If the tank is small, a slightly better idea is small are Ladder Loaches (I look high and low for a small snail eating loach for our 25gal)

They get to about 3" and are just as much fun as clowns :D

Draven didn't mention what size tank they owned and it was an example. I figured the person would do the research on the subject of alternatives of getting rid of snails in their tanks and decide what the best size fish would be for their tank. I guess I should've said that earlier rather than giving an example of a snail eater.

Sorry about that. It's an eclipse 3 gallon with a single Betta. I'm just worried that what ever the snails are, could be harmful to the fish or the enviornment. I keep tossing them out, but don't know if I need to be doing more.

that small just crush one or 2 daily , my bettas love crushed snails :flex: A yo yo may be a bit big for a 3 gallon and they like to be in a group. If it was a 5.5 or 10 gallon then maybe 2 would be grat for ya ;)

excuse me that is a pic of a "YOYO" you are showing and they get to about 3 inches. I have 2 yo yos and are full grown at 3 inches. If you arent sure what a yo yo is please refrain from giving advice on them.

there is some info on the Yo Yo or what you call a ladder loach.

actually its not a yo yo

A YoYo you can read yo yo down the side :p
Black Y's white o's

Yo Yo's can get a LOT bigger than 3 inches... I've seen some at 5" that i nearly bought when i got the ladders. But their marking fade as they get bigger and they didn't look as atractive and the smaller ladders.

what size tank do you have them in?

A Ladder Loach is Botia rostrata

A Yo-Yo Loach is Botia almorhae

however - i wouldnt recommend anything other than manually removing them in a 3 gal tank.

Kind of a silly question, but what do you use to crush your snails? Your fingers?

Do your bettas eat the shell?

yep - fingers are easiest...

I dont know about bettas - but our tetras take the crushed snails and then chew them - spitting out the shells as they go.

I havent seen a yo yo get past 4 inches. But Anything is possible. Not all yo yo s spell yo yo on their side. So i guess we will agree to disagree, but definately not 8 inches like you said earlier.
