so im in the lfs oooooooh there restocking evry tank bags of neons and tetras in polystyrene boxes everywhere OMG they have ADF's OOOOOOOOOOOOOH apple snails i bought 2 they were unpriced i thought about a quid each nope £1.75 each :X

anyway got home they imediatly start snailing around the female betta got a little curious and about sucked ones eye off anyway all was going well till i come in an hour later and theres little black dots in the sand every where so ive put some water in the 3G.........do they need heat or filter?

Yes they need a heater and filter, but apple snails are sensitive to water quality so it wouldn't be best to cycle the tank with them in it.

aslong as your temp is above 60 something youl be fine, filtration isnt that important... they naturally live in stagnant pools and ponds

Apple snails (you didn't mention what species they were), need about 2.5 gallons per snail according to stocking rules.

They do poo a lot. If they have a larger tank, though, it won't be as noticable. I have smaller tanks, so have to clean twice a week or it looks a little sketchy. (weeee.... sometimes I wonder why I have five of them....)

They are sensitive to Nitrates, so make sure those stay under 20ppm, and Nitrites and Ammonia are more harmful to them than to fish!

They also need frozen or plain cooked veggies because fish food and algea aren't enough to keep them healthy and growing!

golden appel snails, roughly the size of a golf ball ive read about the warter parameters as it can damage thier shells must give them some veg tomorrow then thanks for that tip

I had several Golden Apple Snails before I started buying loaches and I fed them lettuce. They loved that stuff and starting laying clutches of eggs soon after. They also like the algae wafers. Ive since moved the snails to my Mom's tank that she keeps at the school where she teaches 2nd grade. The students love to watch the snails crawl all over the tank.
