Ive been doing some research on Betas and looking at other peoples Beta setups and have decided I would like to have a beta tank as well

I want some snails, (apple or ramhorn (sp?)) and cant have them in my community tank. I was wondering if Betas get along with them? I was thinking of a 10 gallon set-up with one Beta, some snails and maybe 3 cories? I love the cories, seeing as how I have 5 in my community tank.

Thanks B)

I have some apple snails with my bettas and was actually going to go look to get some more snails today...I like them...and my bettas dont seem to have a problem with them really...at first they just stare for a while...then i think theyre convinced they are moving rocks so they leave them alone...:)

i've had great success keeping the pomacea bridgesii species of apple snail with my bettas, but had a bit of a disaster with a pomacea canaliculata. the cana, who resided in a 10 gallon with my females, eventually grew so large she began consuming the fish. i refused to believe a snail was able to catch healthy fish, so she went through 4 bettas before i acknowledged she was the culprit. i've since heard numerous reports of similar incidents with this species from other snailkeepers.

wow! that is the most amazing thing I have ever seen! haha its huge! Wonder if my apple snail will get that big...I will have to keep an eye on it...haha if it happens...I have a snail tank that I keep all of them in before I transfer some over to my fish tanks...to make sure they are healthy...Ill just have to put her in with her fellow snails i guess...

the p. bridgesii species won't get quite that large, thankfully; they'll max out around the size of a golf ball. better yet, they're available in quite a few color variants, unlike p. canaliculata, which pretty much comes in brown and gold. i've had brigs in blue, ivory, jade, light purple striped, dark purple striped, gold, brown, and chestnut :) they're quite beautiful. never thought i would say that about a snail!

Yeah, Ive had apple snails that get really big, but they were big when I got them. They called them "Jumbo" apple snails. I wonder if that is the same thing as what you have? I have also seen a dark brown snail that was that big. I dont want super snails  I just want some "normal" apple snails

if you had megasize snails, you probably had the same species as in my photo. there are a few species of apple snail that get very large, but the kind i have is the most widely available of them in the aquarium trade. the kind that stays smaller has a "pointier" spire on the shell. if you find it difficult to discern between the two, the easiest way to make sure you get the kind that won't turn into a softball size monster is to get a color that p. canaliculata doesn't come in :)

hi people.i bought today two apple snails but my betta is biting their antennas.i think i'm going to put him back into his bowl.which other fish r bullying snails?thanks

afain..it all depends on the individual betta. They are like people, each have their own moods and personality. It's a gamble everytime you stick another living creature in there with it.

Mine all kill anything I have ever put in there..I actually feed the baby snails out of my community tank to my bettas on a regular basis..keeps my community tank from being over ridden (I got a nice little colony from some live plants I ordered lol). Otherwise they would take over .

That is one big snail.

:hyper: i just saw ur bettas src.they r great.wow.i 've never found any interesting colours in pet shops.most of them just have red and blue

Thanks :D

Well most of mine don't come from local shops though..they come from breeders (off AB and from Kelly). Only my VT's came from around here...they came from Walmart (except Han he came from a LFS).

i put him back into his bowl.i like my snails and don't want them to get harmed.what's the difference between bridgesii and canaliculata, supersixone?i mean how can i recognise them?coz i don't want a fish eating snail in my tank :-(
