I saw snails on top of each other a week or so ago in the 10g. Now there are white things in something that looks like clear adhesive stuff on the side of the glass in several places. Are these snail eggs? If so, how long does it take them to hatch? And will the Paradise Fish just eat them? Is that safe for her to do that? Where would they get more shells to live in? Sorry to be so dense about this.

Yes they're snail eggs. Don't know if a paradise fish would eat them but you can remove them by gently scraping off with a plastic scraper. That is unless you WANT snails of course.

I had that when i started my first tank. came in on a live plant and soon there were white things on the walls like everyother day. I kept trying and trying to get them offf but soon the snails went away because I medicated the tank. well at least thats what I assume.

i consider you lucky its getting harder and harder to breed my snails, i have to provide some snails for food for my puffers, so i am trying but no success, i have 5 large snails in a 5 gallon cooler for the moment, they are always on top of eachother, but i see no eggs.....

they would sprout ina few weeks or so... if you dont want them put in a solid base chemical to remove them.... or a piece of lettuce

Well, after changing gravel, putting in a tank divider, and doing a 1/3 water change yesterday, it would be a miracle if these snails hatched out. I still don't know what shells they would find to live in. The parents evidently died or got eaten or something after the babies were made since I don't see them anymore. But I am just guessing.

I don't want the snails, so if anyone can figure out how to get them from TN, you are welcome to them. :D

the snails are born with shells....it grows as they grow. you could always get a puffer feed the snails treats...granted you allow them to breed untill you are litteraly over run, or if you have room a couple of clown loaches will gouble em up in no time. you can also remove the "nests" manually before they can hatch.....lucky i got about 20+ in one of my tanks and i havent seen the breed yet :grr:

lol :p

Well, who knew snails were born with shells. I learn something new everyday! :p

I did see an adult today, so evidently they were just resting somewhere I didn't see them (like perhaps the filter or somewhere else I don't want them?). Some of the eggs are not there and it looks like the nest is messed with or they hatched. I haven't paid a lot of attention. If a million snails are running around next week, I'll let everyone know. Or maybe the Paradisefish bothered them. We'll see.

Someone else can have my luck at "breeding" snails, I don't want it!

My mom got so overrun with snails in the 10g at her house she took to using a turkey baster to suck them up and spit them into a bucket. This also served as a partial water change on an ongoing basis. :p
