Hey everyone,

I just got my first apple snail (pomacea bridgesii) from Petco on Tuesday. I seriously thought they had given me a dead one, but after about 8 hours he finally opened up.

The next day, I got the 7 Japanese Trapdoors in the mail that I had ordered from a pond supply site. I have them and the apple snail in a clear ~15 gallon sterlite tub with a heater at 73-74 degrees, and a filter (that's only good for about 10 gallons, but I have a bigger one I'll put in there when I get a cartridge for it). There's a couple terracotta flower pots in there too to shade them from the light during the day.

The little apple snail is pretty active, he's always in a different spot in the tub when I go to check on him. The trapdoor snails aren't really moving around that much (although a couple of them must have had babies because there are 5 of them)... I heard that snails' activity levels often go down during the winter. Could that be why they're so inactive? Especially since they came from a pond.

However, none of them really seem interested in food, even the active little apple snail. I've tried this snail jello stuff made with green bean baby food; but it goes uneaten. I have some cooked broccoli in there now (boiled until tender but not mushy) but no one's even picked at it. I put the apple snail near it before, and when he opened up, he just turned around and went in the complete opposite direction.

What's the deal? :/

i am not very experienced wiht trapdoors. it's like the only freshwater snail i havent breed. i have had apple snails many times. i was never succesful at breeding them tho... >_>

anyway, try watermelon slices, and lettuce. they should try to eat it. if there moving around the tank and stuff they are eating algae also. apple snails tend to like plants more then algae. thats why i suggested the vegy and fruit. the trapdoors should probably stay mainly with eating algae and stuff on the bottom and sides of the aquarium.

might look into doing some google snail research.

btw, i'd be itnerested in having the link to that pond supply site. i've been looking everywhere for trapdoors!

yeah, i'm located in indiana. and that would be awesome to get some! :fun:

i can't get anything until mid february though. one evil science teacher that doesn't let you make up homework on days you were sick can ruin your life

Alright, PM me when you can have them and if I still have extras I'll send them off to you. :)
