Hey everyone,
I just got my first apple snail (pomacea bridgesii) from Petco on Tuesday. I seriously thought they had given me a dead one, but after about 8 hours he finally opened up.
The next day, I got the 7 Japanese Trapdoors in the mail that I had ordered from a pond supply site. I have them and the apple snail in a clear ~15 gallon sterlite tub with a heater at 73-74 degrees, and a filter (that's only good for about 10 gallons, but I have a bigger one I'll put in there when I get a cartridge for it). There's a couple terracotta flower pots in there too to shade them from the light during the day.
The little apple snail is pretty active, he's always in a different spot in the tub when I go to check on him. The trapdoor snails aren't really moving around that much (although a couple of them must have had babies because there are 5 of them)... I heard that snails' activity levels often go down during the winter. Could that be why they're so inactive? Especially since they came from a pond.
However, none of them really seem interested in food, even the active little apple snail. I've tried this snail jello stuff made with green bean baby food; but it goes uneaten. I have some cooked broccoli in there now (boiled until tender but not mushy) but no one's even picked at it. I put the apple snail near it before, and when he opened up, he just turned around and went in the complete opposite direction.
What's the deal?
