Does anyone keep snails in their fry tanks? Can they be in there during spawning? I'm just thinking as a clean up crew for my fry tank. I tried to clean it with an air hose last night and sucked up a fry and I couldn't net him so I ended up dumping the whole pitcher of junk bank in!

I tried to add in snails to clean up in case I accidently overfed. However the snails added so much extra waste it wasn't worth it. The best way for water changes when the fry are teeny is to use a turkey baster. It takes a lot more time, esp. for the larger changes....but it's worth it for the peice of mind of not sucking up any fry!

i use apple snail and the waste is easier to suck up that food waste and scum which the snails eat.

I have a snail in my spawning tanks snail waste is alot better than decaying food. A good tip for syphoning off water is to have an airstone on the end that goes in the tank that way no fishies can get sucked up though dirt stays in there. At 3 weeks old i swap the airstone for netting which lets the dirt through.
