hi my brother recently found 3 or 4 snails in his tank and hasnt a clue how they got there. we are not sure of their names but they were tiny with a brownish shell kind of like what you would find in your garden. he bought a plant a month ago could they have survived the half hour trip with no water to his house if they were on the plant already

also were they purchased or did they suddenly apper?

it would be near impossible to take a pic as there that small but they just appeared they were not purchased

my general rule when it comes to snails is if they randomly apper then you have a pest snail which will quickly multiply on you.
if you have to purchase them like a mystery snail or a netrate snail then you have a good snail that will be good for you aquruimus eco system.

what i would do now, is try to remove them as quickly as possible before they get out of hand, if youhave to clean any kind of surface you have as well for they will leave nests just about anywhere. my brother had these guys in his aquirum they left nests on his glass and plants and would drop down when hatched and emerge from the stones a few weeks later. look at the sticky above about pest snails.

i also want to note there are good snails out there, i have a few but these pest snails could put people off from owning any snail.

but how do they get in the tank? he didnt buy them so they had to find their way in someway

exactly most pest snails sneak in on plants that have been bought. even the most careful of the plant buyers by have a single stow away that can quickly make many many freinds.
