Snail vs. Fish

The girls have turned on poor Gary. They don't attack his feelers anymore, I swear he slaps them with them. The girls (I've seen at least 3 of them do this now) get up next to him, wiggle, and curl up in the "C" shape and slap him with their tails.

I have no idea why they're doing this.
Daisy still loves him, but Nellie, Liza and Pearl hate him and are tail slapping him. Why would they start doing this? I hope they don't attack his soft parts some day when I'm not watching. Is it safe to leave him in there as is?

Oh, this all started once all 6 of the girls got back into the tank. Everyone is healthy again, and there was some major tiffing going on for the first night, but everyone's calmed down for the most part. Might they just be taking their aggressions out on Gary?

They are just re-establishing their "pecking order". They're probably thinking "Hmmmm, I can't pick on any of the other girls, so I'll pick on... Gary! Woohoo! I'll show HIM who's boss!" I'm sure they'll be over it soon... if not, you could always move him to another tank.

Now I have to start watching my snails to make sure the bettas aren't spanking them.

Gary just runs away. Well, as fas as a snail can go anyway.
In Gary's case - he can move pretty quick. He shocks me sometimes how fast he can be.

The little brat is eating my anacharis now. Every morning SOME plant is floating because he has chewed it off at the base. I swear he does it to irrirtate me. There are plenty of algae wafers in there all the time, and plenty of algae growing all over the place cuz the lights are on.

I might just have to move him to one of the boy's tanks w/out live plants in it.
Teach his butt a lesson!

Bmom, your story reminded me of an old thread. You might want to read this one. (the last couple of pages are WAAYYY off topic, but the first 3 are interesting fodder, seeing as how some bettas will eat pond snails...)
