I could really use some help on how to fix my snails shell problem..my city recently treated our water and my tank was all out of sorts. Now thati have it back under control im tyring to address my issue with my lil snails..they have had their shells disintigrating for a little while now and when i bought them the pet store worker said that it was a normal part of getting larger..till I did my own research and and tried but failed to correct this problem any ideas for me?

I also would like some pointers on food for them if anyone wants to share :)

For my african dwarf frogs as well

Hi I have had (and still do) have this problem and found that adding calcium to the water helped somewhat, I am unsure of how to dose so I just added 1 teespoon per 100l of water to the tank then added 1/2 teesponn during water changes as again I am not sure if calcium is dissolved in the water column of reamains (like salt). I was also recommended to add a cuttlefish bone to the tank weighted down behind some decor but I have not personally tried this method yet.

Hope this helps,

Mark

Calcium doesnt allways help, it should be there allways and wont fix problems that are already there, but may prevent them occuring or getting worse.

holes in shells can be filled with resin, cant remember what kind though, once hardened it protect the snail from preditors.

What normally happens with snails is they are moved from poor water quality to good water quality and this isnt a good thing, as the shell stop growing before the body, what happened with a few of mine was the shell splits at the snail grows inside and get too big for the shell. di

Next time you are at your local Pet store, get some cuttle fish, good not only for Birds but the calcium will help improve the snails shells. :good:

Okay so i went out and bought some cuttlebone..but im not sure how much I should add?

Also..does anyone know about a good diet for them??
