I have a very newbie-esque question.

Earlier today, I noticed a snail in my cycling 10gal tank. I was in a hurry to work, so I only saw it for a few seconds, and the darn thing just wasn't moving in a snail-like way. It moved very quickly on a rock, stopped, and then moved very quickly in another direction.

It looked kinda like a ramshorn, but it could also have been a pond snail. I can't seem to relocate it for a good solid inspection, so aside from it being dark and not pointy, I can't give too many other details.

Would the high heat of my tank be a reason why the snail would move so darn fast? I have the heater set to as high as it can go, to promote bacterial growth in my cycle.

I was pretty sure I couldn't avoid getting snails, but I was dissapointed to see that I have them so early on. At least my prospective fish would enjoy them as a tastey treat.

*edit: I'm about 90% sure it's a pond snail, but boy howdy does it move fast. My core question stands.

After eyeing it for ages, it actually seems to be eating the little "water flea" looking guys that are hoping about in my tank, as well as those itty bitty white wormy things. It's not even touching the plants. I thought pond snails ate plants? It seems to be a pooping machine, it eats a worm and almost immediately... 'expels'.
