hi guys

snails are over running my tank can any1 suggest me a fish suitable for a 30g that eat the snails ? if not what solutions are there to get rid of them :(

The best thing that i have found short of manually picking them out one by one is to put a leaf of lettuce on the bottom of the tank every night and remove it and the snails every morning. Sometimes you get none other times you get a dozen or more. For a fish that will be fine in that size of tank a pakistani loach will eat your snails. Here is a LINK HTH :)

Well, keep in mind this is coming from someone who likes snails and really doesn't understand why people hate them so much, they help clean up the tank... but anyways, their population is directly related to the amount of food source in the tank. Quite simply, if there are a huge amount of snails, there is a cooresponding huge food source for the colony. Reduce the food source (with more frequent water changes and gravel vaccuming, better filtration, less fish in the tank, feeding less, etc) and the snail population will naturally reduce. The method of picking out the ones you can see or baiting them with the lettuce will speed things along.

The picking method works a treat. I don't want to use molluscicites as they are seriously nasty so just picking them out has worked fine :)

Well here is an answer, depends on how little of fish you have. Green spotted puffers will eat the snails especially the small ones, it keeps their teeth from getting too big. Put a larg one in there, it SHOULDNT kill other fish. smaller ones would be better if you have lots of other fish. i have 2, they are the best fish ever :)

thanx for the advice guys

the lettuce idea seems to be the best method i think i'll implement that :)

i like clown loaches
but i wasn't sure wether clown loaches would be suitable for a 30g never looked up on them before
but my 30 gallon is pretty understocked at the moment so if they would be alright in a 30 gallon then i wouldn't mind getting one
