snail out of nowhere. is this one bad?

Hi. I set up my tank around 10 days ago, and today I found a snail out of nowhere. Where did it come from? Can they come in the gravel? It was very small i don't know if it's supposed to grow more or if it's a good thing to have or if it will bring trouble. Please help. Thank you...

The snail goes by various names - pond, tadpole, bladder, pest. They are actually a good part of the tank ecosystem, and they usually arrive on live plants either as snails or eggs, possibly even in the water from the shop when you bought the fish if you don't have live plants.
I have these, and tiny ramshorn snails in my tanks, together with nerite snails which I bought. There is more information on them in this thread http://www.fishforums.net/threads/freshwater-snail-species-in-the-hobby.424364/

Snails are only a problem if there are too many of them. The way to keep their numbers under control is by not over feeding the fish.
