Hi

I'm quite new to fish keeping and this is probably a stupid question!

I have a tank with African Dwarf Frogs, Amano Shrimp and three medium sized Zebra Snails. There are a few 'pest' snails like bladder snails. I don't mind having a few, but have now found eggs in the tank and don't want them to breed. I don't want to go killing the snails myself.

I read that Dwarf Chain Loaches will eat some small snails - will they eat my Zebra Snails, or will these be too big for the fish? Will they bother my Amano Shrimp or ADFs? I have no other fish in the tank. I'm also reducing the amount of food I put in the tank in the hope that this reduces the snail population.

Is there anything else you can recommend if these fish are not suitable for me?

Thanks!

Assassin snails will control the population. Another method of control is to put a slice of lettuce or cucumber in the bottom of the tank (weighed down with lead) in the evening when the lights have just turned off then leave it for an hour. After an hour it should be swarming with snails just remove and throw away, the shrimp and zebras will also enjoy the tasty treat. I wouldn't add a loach as why add a fish when you have a thriving invert/amphib tank.
