My son's 6 1/2 gallon tank with its 3 guppies has been doing very well. Used some borrowed filterage from old tank and managed to avoid new tank syndrome. HOWEVER, the plants we bought for it obviously had baby snails and now they're destroying the plants! What tropical fish that's small would find these to be a tasty gourmet treat? :p

Well normally I would say that a Clown loach would do the trick. BUT the fact that it would end up being to big Maybe there is some snail begone. 8)

Unfortunatly, the fish that would feast on them (depending on the type of snail) wouldn't work in your tank. A single Dwarf puffer would shred the guppies. The tank is to small for loaches that would also eat them.

You don't want to add a snail poison.

Try the natural way to control them:

Take a piece lettuce ( spinach leaf would work, but your guppies might nibble on it a bit) and put in on a saucer. Weigh it down with some gravel or a small rock. Put it in your tank, and turn the lights off. Next morning, it should be covered with snails. I would repeat this a few nights in a row. This won't remove all of them, but it will help control them.

Be sure to rinse the saucer well before putting it in your tank, you don't want any dish soap.

Do you know what kind of snails they are?

What plants do you have?
