well i have heard thta a clow loach will eat snails but i do not have room for one wot outher types eat snails ?? plz help

by the way the tank is a 10 uk G if this helps

well in a tank that small you are very limited as to what to get..

I would say to try to get them yourself if possible...

toss a piece of cucumber in at night and pull it out the next morning you should see it covered in snails...

You will never beat them, but can keep them under control..

I don't think there are any that are smaller enough to live in a 10gallon. Snails out breaks are often related to over feeding your fish or not cleaning the substrate at the bottom of your tank enough and i would look into this if i were you. The best thing you can do to get rid of the snails is take them out yourself.

what ones could i get
(depending on your current stocking levels)
2 or 3 dwarf loaches would be ok in a 10 gallon, but I'm
not sure as to wether or not they would have an
impact on the snail population.

thank you wolf i think some one elce told me that they would work well ill have to go and get some then

what you could do is stuff a coca cola bottle with lettuce and cucumber and put it hangin in the top of the tank and in the morning remove. this works but wont get rid of the problem just control it

Do not waste your money on Yoyo loaches(pakistan botia) I was advised to use these and they do nothing to the little snails. Great fish very fun to watch but useless as snail controll. I just use my finger to crush the ones on the glass every once in a while and the grav vac seems to get a few as well. In such a small tank you are best off just trying to get rid of a few when you get the chance.

You don't really have enough space in a 10UK for snail eating loaches. The Botias as a genus are a gregarious bunch and should be kept in groups. There are no snail eating loaches that are small enough to be kept in a suitable group in a tank that size.

Firstly, small loaches eat small snails, medium sized loaches eat medium size snails and big loaches eat big snails.

Look into getiing so botia sidthimunkis (aka dwarf loach). They stay under 2 inches, are very active at all levels of a tank and will eat small snails. They do need to be in groups- so look to get 3- if you can find them.

I have a herd of 7 in my 20L- used to have snails in that tank- have not seen one in many many months now.

Botia sidthimunki usually does not live long enough in captivity to exceed 2"/50mm. It is for that reason that you will hear them called "Dwarf". In the wild they grow much larger. At loaches, there is a photograph of a 4"/100mm specimen for example.

It is also a species on the IUCN endangered species list.

I have recently bought Yoyo Loaches and they are eating the snails, which is what I bought them for. They will grow to 5inches, I have a 20UKgal tank. :)

I have two polkadot loaches in my 28gallon tank, since having these I don't get snail problems..... they must be eating them. I was over-run with them before.
