snail attraction

so i was watching King of the Hill, and it says there that beer attracts snails.

is this true?

ordinary land snails,yes i beleive so,if you leave a class full out side they will fall in and drown. (waste of good beer) di

only works with real ale or guinness imo. but yeah, dont waste the stuff!!!

This is supposed to be a proven remedy for slugs in the garden (and slugs are just snails, right? With no shells?). I guess it must work since it's still going around. btw I don't drink beer but my dad would probably holler if he heard I was wasting good beer.
