Ok...I have a 10g tank with a few cories and a male betta.Recently I added a lovely gold mystery snail. As soon as it was in the tank,my betta came up and butted it with his head.Later I saw him nudge it off an ornament, but I'm not positive that he meant to,as it was during a feeding of bbs and bloodworms.

I'm wondering if the betta will adjust to the snail or should I move him?He never bothers the cories.Somehow I didn't think a betta would be a threat to such a large snail but I may have been mistaken

The snail is healthy and very active...far more interesting than I imagined a snail could be.I don't want it harmed so I am watching them closely.

Thanks for any info.

I would say a good indication is the snail moving around the tank. If it is moving around without a care (antennas fully extended, and mouth completely out of shell), then he is fine.

I bought an Ivory mystery snail, about the size of a quarter, and put him in a 2.5g with a plakat. He never left his shell, because the plakat would torment him. I removed him (snail) after a week.

After the plakat died, the tank became home to a small CT (The Gimp  ) that has a deformity, and is blind in one eye. The Gimp flared a few times, then let it go. The snail moves around the tank like he his alone.

I would say it just depends on the individual betta.

My betta Apollo did the same thing at first when I put the Ramshorn snail in with him. It was like he was more curious and would nudge the poor guy around until he felt satisfied that the snail would adhere to his decisions or something... crazy betta! Anyway, the snail felt at home enough to start laying eggs all over the tank... Guess it depends on the betta's personality. I've since moved snail into the community tank with some females and they don't even acknowlege his existence...

Well...the snail is definitely all over the place.Even wrapped itself around the airline tubing and gave it a good cleaning :p But I don't know about the antennas being extended and all. This being my first snail I was just amazed at how active it is.The betta seems to be leaving it alone now...most of the time. But I am thinking of moving him(the betta) just to be sure that the snail is not stressed.

Thanks for the help :)

I agree with cometcattle... it really depends on the personality of the betta. My sister put some of my ramshorn snails in with her male betta and they could never leave their shells because he kept biting at their antennas and shoving them around. Your betta might get bored of him after a while, though, so just make sure to keep an eye on the situtation.

Definitely depends on the fish. I have a dozen medium to large sized snails with a Ctown Tail and they all float their antennas around without a care but before when I had two female Betta in there, the one large snail I had was active but never had his antenna out because the girls would nip at them.
