I have persuaded my friend I work with that the National Geographic tank in argos is not suitable. Her son has 2 small goldfish and since xmas they have been hiding in the tank. She has this dinnertime rushed to wilkos to get one of those plastic tanks and an air pump! So fingers crossed they have some in stock!

euh i hate that tank :( ive had to talk a few people out of buying goldfish for it.

The one in wilko's is that the little two gallon one? coz thats still a bit of a waste of money since its still weeey too small..

see if she has a spare £300 to get a PROPER goldfish coldwater tank
even in a little tank from wilkinsons, those fish aren't going to live out their full lifespan exactly. maybe a few years if you're lucky and do enough water changes...

You dont need £300 for a goldfish tank, you could get a 20 gallon second hand in the ad section or notice boards in shops.
Filtration is the key for the goldfish to survive any size tank.

I understand what you are getting at but anything thing is better than that thing from Argos!!

I gave up keeping goldfish in my small tanks a good while ago. They kept diying although I believe this had nothing to do with the size of tank. I keep them in a loft bedroom with my snakes so it got warm and I blame that. I bought a small heater for one 5 gallon and keep a couple of tetras on it with lots of plants and they love it. I then put a weather loach and WCMM's in the 7 gallon which are also doing great.

I always had a back up pond for fish that got to big so I never bought them without thinking.

Sorry going on a bit now.

Hi I am new to this, please could someone give me some help asap.

I have recently bought a BiOrb 30 litre tank for cold water fish which includes a filter and halogen light. I bought this to keep two goldfish, one being a blackmoore and another, I am not too sure which would be best - I'd appreciate any ideas. I have been in touch with someone on a fish forum and he said that the BioOrb is no good for goldfish as each goldfish needs 10 gallons of water and my Biorob only holds 6-7 gallons in total. He also said that I would need a 20 gallon tank with filtration of 200 gph. We have now set up the Biorb and it is going through the cleaning process at the moment and we will be buying our fish(next Monday) that’s why I needed some help as quickly as possible. I am really upset that I have bought one of these Biorbs thinking that it would be a nice home for them (especially with the expense of them) and now I am told that coldwater fish will not be suitable.

Please help me, a worried Buyer?

Whoever helped you was right, biorbs are rubbish, expensive rubbish at that.
Goldfish bowl springs to mind and though ten gallons is right as the fish grows it will need more room.
Are you set on getting goldfish? Could you not go for smaller fish that dont get bigger than an inch? For coldwater I think your best bet is white cloud minnows.

That 30 ltr BiOrb would make a nice betta tank- why don't you go for a betta instead? Whether you'll need a small heater or not depends on your room temperature. If you ask in the betta forum they'll take you through the best way of setting it up.

I found by 29 gallon tank on eBay. It was brand new, never used and came with lights fittings, matching wood effect hood and stand. All for just £50! I love eBay for things like that... sooo many tanks are available in all sorts of locations. Seriously... just do a search for 'tank' or 'aquarium'. For 'tank' you might end up with a few model toys (lol), but just click on the right sub-section on the left hand side to get to 'pets' or whatever it is.

:p we had tank like that from Argos. got i out of box---far too small---got refund
