Hi--I have an 8.5 gallon tank. Are there any small size algae-eaters for the glass? The plecos I would think would get too big for this tank.

You could try having a look here: http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/132656-30-plecos-under-8-inches/

Then it's just a case of seeing if you can find it in your LFS.

Otocinclus, if you have very well filtered water and a well maintained tank. But that's a small tank and they need to be in groups. And not all fish eat all types if algae. Really YOU are the best algae controller, with a brush.

Shrimp and snails because most fish need more swimming space or to be kept in larger groups.

+1, you shoudln't really be getting a fish purly for this purpose, get a sponge out and give it a wipe, takes about 5 min on my 30gal ;)

+2 should find the cause rather then making it, too much light, sunlight from a window etc..
