I'm looking to add a nice schooling fish to my 14 gallon which currently has 4 Brown Spike Tail paradise fish in it. I wasn't sure if I was going to add anything else but the paradise fish are quite shy and like to hide in plants a lot so the tank is looking empty :/

I want to get maybe some kind of rasbora or type of tetra. Something that are reddish in color.

If I added say 5 tetras or rasboras would I then be fully stocked? My lfs has some pygmy cories. They are the tinest things and I was thinking they would look real nice in the tank too. That might be pushing it a bit though???

Pseudosphromenus dayi is a nice little anabantoid, normally I don't have much time for the group, but I have kept these little guys and was quite fond of them.

The trouble is your tank is small. Whilst the dayi only grow to ~35-40mm 4 of them limit you to say 5 Harlequins, which would actually be very good with the dayi as they are active without being boistrous.

That will fill your tank. If you want the Corys, (which are also shoaling fish), you won't have room for Rasboras or tetras.

try finding rasbora maculata
the third smallest cyprinid in the world
they are a stunning red colour and would
not add a measurable bioload to your tank

I have 6 of these stunning little fish, but they are hard to find (in shops)

Guppy
swordtail
black moly

all r good choices get 2xpair they would be very happy.

mollies and swordtails would be far, far too large for your tank as it is currently. and neither of these should really be kept in tanks under 20g.

if active and nippy fish would be poor choices to go with the anabatoids, skip out on the guppies as well.

Yeah they are really neat little fish :)

Yeah the tank is small I was using it as a fry tank before. Once it was empty I really wanted to get something unique for it. When I saw these guys I was instantly attracted to them and just had to get them :D

I'll skip the pygmy cories then and try and find some nice rasboras. I'll look into the Harleguins like you suggested.

I'm not sure how to do double quotes in one post so sorry I'm gonna reply like this :p

Wolf -They are nice rasboras!! I know my lfs probably wont have them in but I know a place that will most certainly have them (same place I got the Pseudosphromenus dayi from). I'll email them and ask and maybe go and have a look this weekend

No I don't want to add any type of livebearers to this tank. I've already got 3 tanks set up with mollies, some swordtails and platies. I'm starting to venture away a bit from the livebearers...getting more interested in other types of fish like the anabantoids, cyprinids, and cichlids.

I'm glad you like them :D
I couldn't find a common name in Swedish
but I found one in Finnish that may or may
not help you search for them over there.
Kääpiörasbora

I hope you can get them, good luck with the search.

I agree, Boraras maculata, (formerley Rasbora maculata), would also be a good choice, even more red than a good Harlequin.

>>> I couldn't find a common name in Swedish

På dansk, hedder de Dværgrasbora eller Pygmærasbora.

Well I couldn't help myself so I went to my lfs and walked out with 6 harlequins :D I let them float in the tank for about 20 mins...after 10 mins I added some of my tank water into the bag. I just released them and they are cruising around the tank.

I had good intentions of looking at the pygmy rasbora but I couldn't help myself so I went to my lfs :p

I asked for 5 harlequins but the guy caught 6 so he gave me the 6th one for free. I hope 6 is ok???

Now at least theres some movement in the tank  I'm sure the other fish will come around. They are a lot braver than they were yesterday at least now they are swimming around the plants instead of hiding behind the filter.
