I got 8 goldies in my tank. They all been together for like 5 months.
I recently noticed that the smaller 2 have torn fins and red patches in their fins and some other parts of the body.

Are the other fishes bullying them? because nothing happens when i monitor them, i can stand there for an hour and all they do is swim around happily in the tank. But the condition of the 2 little guys is worrying me. What should i do?

Need more info on size of tank in gallons or litres, water stats in ammonia,nitrite,nitrate,and ph.
Sadly it sounds like septicemia.

Not the writer of this information below.
Symptoms:

Fish may have reddening at fin bases, blood streaks throughout the fins and body, small hemorrhages around the eyes. Dull listless behavior and lack of appetite may also be present.

Cause:

Systemic bacterial infection caused by various bacteria, including Aeromonas, Pseudomonas and Vibrio. The illness is often brought on by poor water quality or as a result of parasitic infestations or other infections. These bacteria enter the blood stream and circulate through the tissues causing inflammation and damage. Inflamed blood vessels in the skin and at fin bases stand out. Blood vessel and heart tissue damage cause hemorrhaging and consequently leakage of body fluids into the abdomen, which may lead to Dropsy.

Treatment:

Water conditions must be improved for all fish in the tank, regardless of how many fish are infected. Check your water’s Treat with Kanacyn or Tetracycline as well as with a medicated food if the fish will eat. If parasites are suspected, all the fish in the tank should be treated with antiparasitic medication. Using salt to help restore osmotic balance might be helpful.

What type of goldfish? I would say you could be overstocked. How many gallons an hour does the filter turn over in an hour as it would need to do 800 minimum to cope with the waste.

Water Readings

Ammonia = 2.5
Nitrate = 0
Nitrite = 0

4 orandas, 2 inches
2 fantails, 2-3 inches
2 blackmoors, 2 inches

Filter does 1000 gallons an hour (or so i was told) :*)

I took the guys out of the tank :sad: and a water change.
I am currently working so i can't go get any treaments until the weekend since everything is close by the time i finish. What else can i do?

What kind of filter, is it external, internal?
You are showing ammonia which is enough for a fish to get septiceamia. Did you cycle the tank before hand or just put all the fish in together? How often and how much do you do water changes?
Theres no nitrate level which there should be for a cycled tank as well.
Do 50% water change every day to bring the ammonia level back to 0. use a gravel vac if you arent already and when you clean out the sponges do you do so in old tank water as running under a tap will kill any bacteria?
Remember dechlorinate as well.
Im sure you nkow most of this but jst making sure
You said you removed the fish, I take it the two sick ones? where did you put them?
The only way to get through this is to rinse the sponges in tank water, dechlorinate, and do regular water changes and maybe take half the healthy fish back to the store until your filter is happy.
Cut back the feeding as well just in case thats to blame too.

Is an External filter.

Nitrate and Nitrite readins have always been 0 for me, even in my tropical tank. I think there must be something wrong with my kits or i can't count the drops i am putting in :X

I got plants in the tank too. Dun think they do anything though.

I did cycle the tank, the fish went in 2 grps, 4 first then the other 4 came in 4 weeks later. They been in the tank for 6 months now.

I do water changes once every 2 weeks, like a 20% change. I am still picking up bloodworms from a feed that got into the gravel like 2 months ago. :no:

Should i change the carbon and all the sponges in the filter? I notice some pellets in the sponges :/ maybe over feeding? I give them flakes and live brine shrimps and blooworms (once because i couldn't get shrimps)

Yeah i took the sick ones out of the tank, they are now in a container with about 20 gallons of water.

I would add a cannister filter inside the tank to help keep it clean. Most externals do around 750 gph.
Dont change any of the media in it as you need the bacterial colonies, just squeeze out the sponge part.
You arent doing enough water changing. Goldies require really clean water so I would suggest for now doing 40% twice a week with gravel vacs to get the tank back on balance as this may be all thats needed to get them well again. After that you really should be doing a water change at least once a week preferably two small changes of 30% twice a week just to keep the gravel clean.
As you are finding food in the filter that may be due to you not hoovering it out enough but cut back to feeding a little just once a day and give them enough so as the food doesnt drop to the bottom.
Put the two fish back in once you have done two days worth of water changes.

I had a look at the filter, it saids it does 1600 gallons an hour. :drool:

Anyway i am still doing water changes, the sick ones look a bit nervous, u get a bit close to where they are and they swim like crazy, sometimes hitting each other or even the glass :-(
