Badis badis
Peacock gudgeon
Dwarf puffer
Candy striped gobies
Goo obo gudgeons
Desert gobies
Just a few for you to google ;)

Though they aren't 'oddballs' per say, you may also find shell-dwelling cichlids of interest - n. multifasciartus in particular - for their behaviour. Here's a link: http://www.cichlidrecipe.com/shellweb/

Also, the African Butterfly fish is one predatory species qute a bit larger than you'd expect to fit in a 10 gallon and in my opinion rather beautiful. They are quite closely related to the badis (which is another lovely option IMO).

How are african butterflies closely related to badis?? Badis are Perciforms (perches) and African butterflies are from the family Pantadontidae of which they are the only species in the genus, the only way they are related is that they are both fish. :S

Another odd looking fish that isnt really a oddball as its a catfish and isnt exactly small but can go into a 20g tank due to its inactive nature is the frog mouthed catfish Chaca chaca http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showtopic=34214 . Or you could go for a single dwarf pike Cichlid such as Crenicichla regani or Crenicichla compressicips which make great solitary fish for a small planted tank.

Maybe she had butterflies cunfused with leaf fish :dunno:

A zig-zag eel is good. Just getting it to feeding is kinda tough. Umm if you want a really odd thing swimming get an aquatic frog like an African Clawed frog

Oops, my mistake :*) It's exactly what lucky62 said - I somehow had leaf fish (which are nandidae) in my mind when I wrote that. I do realise pantodontidae and badidae are not related and I'm very sorry for any confusion that may have caused.

Only problem is, those wouldn't fit in a 10 gallon ;)

actually, what Dwarfs means is that while they would technically "fit" in a 10g, they both would feel too cramped and would rapidly begin a never ceasing cycle of escape attempts--which could only eventually result in the creature's death.

just because a fishy is small, doesn't mean it doesn't need a lot of territory.

The Eel or the frog?

Oh I'm lucky I don't have an african clawed frog. I was guessing though I thought Zig Zags could be kept in a ten. I had mine for around 9 months and it has never grown. It is around 5 inches I think

What about an African dwarf frog?
