Hopefully im getting a 24 gallon nanocube for christmas and it will be set up as a miniture reef aquarium. i have some great ideas for the aquarium but one of my most favoritable ideas is keeping a moray eel...now i know that these things grow massive and i also know that they probably or most definatly can not be kept in this tank however i was just hoping to find out if there was any species of marine eel i could keep in the tank and also if any body else has any ideas for oddball marine fish for this size tank. thanks in advance summat fishy :)

There are a couple of speceis of morays that might fit in that tank (if you can find them) but morays make bad reef inhabitants as a result of their habit of eating fish and/or clean up crew.

Smaller growing morays (from Reef Fishes Volume 1)include:

Enchelycore carychoa (Chestnut Moray) 34cm (13.4")
Gymnothorax brunneus (Brown Moray) 25 cm (9.8")
Gymnothorax buroensis (Latticetail Moray) 33cm (13")
Gymnothorax gracilicaudus (Slendertail Moray) 32 cm (12.6")
Gymnothorax herrei (Herre's Moray) 30cm (11.8")
Gymnothorax melatremus (Golden Moray) 18cm (7.1")
Gymnothorax richardsonii (Richardson's Moray) 32 cm (12.6")
Uropterygius macrocephalus (Largehead Snake Moray) 40cm (15.7")

All of the above are recommended as a 20 gallon minimum tank size, though I find that occasional Scott W. Michael seems to slightly undersize the tanks. One must remember that the sizes are the maximum lengths so in an aquariums expect a little less.

One thing you will probably find is that in order to keep a moray in asmall tank you will need aggressive skimming.

wow so many species! wel a few...thanks alot you were really helpful! also does that mean that all inverts are out of the question? and what is the cheapest skimmer that is suitable for this application? thanks summat fishy

Yeah pretty much all inverts are out of the question, morays like to nibble on them ;)

oh rite well neve mind....does anybody know of where i can get a golden morayt from in england? and if they have a very large price tag? thanks summat fishy :D

All I could find was a Goldentail Moray, maybe the same thing but you can see for youself. The price tag is a bit pricey for a fish but if your desperate to get one its not so bad.
