can you buy tanks with everything you need to get started on marine?

ive not a clue about marine but im want to learn and i need to get some prices in my head for tanks but ideally a tank with filter skimmer lights etc all built in

only really want a pair of clowns and a small amount of live rock

Not realy. Package tanks either come with poor equipment that needs upgrading, or with a massively inflated price tag...

Are you wanting to be doing large waterchanges weekly, or keep maintanace minimal? If the latter, I'd look at ditching the filter, they create a fair bit of work ;)

What volume of tank are you looking at, and dimentions?

All the best

small as possible i really do only want 2 clowns well its not even for me im buying it as a 10th birthday present for my girlfriends little brother i will be doing all matinence and looking after of the tank and me and the missus will probally keep it in our room

ive got no problems with daily waterchanges ive just cycled my tropical tank and was doing about %50 3 times a day

i was maybe thinking just one of those little nano reef things with 2 clowns in it?

The main thing with clowns is the tank footprint. They are active fish that need swimming room  What particular type did you have in mind? Commons, perks, tomartos? They can get to different sizes and need different minimum tank dimentions...

orca tanks seem ok out of the box. TL550 or 450
expensive though and if you want corals you would have to add another pump but would be ok just to keep clowns and some live rock imo

just lights, pump, filter etc

ill have to pop into my local fish store to see what they stock and have a chat with them

what is the smallest size clown? and its proper name?

:good:

i could probally push my buget to this

That would be more like it. Could even fit another fish in there too.
Look in the nano section theres a few people own those

Final question. Will you be buying them as a matched pair (from £60) or as two fish to allow them to pair (from about £20)? The latter will require a larger tank to give them space during the "agro" stage of pairing, but is cheaper for set-up costs.

Perk or Common clowns are the smallest that I know of, I believe the ones in the link Ben added above are commons. An adult pair would be fine in a 24X15" based tank, or you will want a 38X15" based tank if you are pairing them yourself :good:

You could do a FOWLR set-up in the smaller of those for about £192 (Tank, air-driven skimmer, air pump, powerhead, small light unit, heater and 7KG of live rock) all new, or from an existing tank in the case of LR, via Aquarists classifyeds e.t.c... Scrapping the skimmer and air pump would shave about £60 off that, if you don't mind doing say 30-40% weekly waterchanges instead of 20% either weekly or fortnightly :good:

im not really sure how i would go about it probally get a pair and like i say see what some of the local fish stores are offering in the way of stocking clowns

im just throwing ideas around atm ive only had my tropical going about 3 weeks so i would be a while before i got any money together to do it

the kid wants a goldfish of his own this i why im toying with the idea of a small marine as all kids like nemo and will probally have more intrest in it

would one clown on its own be ok with maybe a few smaller fish with it or another lone fish that wont fight with the clown?

One clown would be ok. But i think they look/do best in pairs. I you buy one that is a fair bit bigger than the other there will be a lot less agro as the bigger one with have its dominace quicker. Or buy a proven pair.

I paired mine myself. one is big compared to the other like i said above and i have never seen them fight.
