can you tell me any fish that only grow to about 1-2 inches big
but i don't really want guppies or mollies...
i would like maybe 3 or 4
what could i have ?
thanks
Billy

tank size? parameters? whats in the tank?

please state as Aston has asked, tank size and wether you have fully matured helps us to know, also any tank mates? 1-2 inch and not a guppy, hmm dwarf puffers, but there for a species only id reccomend,, :good:
If they tickle your fancy then ensure you enquire fully about them first, hehe

If your tank water is suitable and they will have no tankmates capable of eating them have a look at celestial pearl danio / galaxy rasbora

ive got a 10 gallon
matured
and has 2 paradise fish in it (abut 2 inches big)
pretty much it :p

i went to my local pet store about half hour ago and i have found out they they are agressive as you just stated :)
so i am goin to take them back tomorrow.. because when we bought them they said they were commuinity fish.. but now i find out they are fin nippers :S
sooo now its an empty tank xD
MORE CHOICE :D
thanks Billy

I'd go for a shoal of 6 or 7 tinies; one of the rasboras maybe, or Ember tetras (I saw some at my LFS the other day, and they were lovely) and maybe a trio of Sparkling gouramis.
I think that would look lovely and shouldn't give you any touble :)

yeh i was thinking about a couple of dwarf gouramis
also i was thinking about a siamese fighter and an angel.. would these be good together?
i know angels arent really meant to be put in a ten gallon :S
but would they fight?
i love the siamese fighters
:S
thanks Billy

Sorry, you can't put an angel in a 10 gallon; it wouldn't be fair to the fish!

You could have a Siamese fighter though, plus, how about a few dwarf cories or some shrimp? You can't really have a Siamese fighter and gouramis; you'll have to pick one or the other!

well if i had gouramis at least that means more of a choice for other additions rather than being scared that the siamese fighter will kill it haha
well tomorrow.... when i take the paradise fish back
i have to make a swap
but i just don't know what because all it had was gourmis, rams, kribensis, another cichlid, firemouths(but they get too big), goldfish :S and loads of tetras... i might get a couple of tetras just generally because it still leaves me options for another fish from my better fish store with much more of a better selection :D

I keep corries with my paradise fish. Perfect combination as corries are bottom dwellers and paradise fish stay at the top.You can get them in all types from 1=2 inches.Paradise fish vary in temperament. Mine sre docile and males will happily share a tank with other males (have 2 pairs in same tank)with no aggression.

@ Biddles95 - Is this tank cycled? Or did you just go to the pet shop and get some fish? If it hasn't had any cycling done on it then I suggest you read the links in my sig... cycling a tank is basically the process of getting the filter ready to turn the ammonia fish create (which is highly toxic) into a substance called nitrites (also toxic) and then into nitrates (which aren't toxic until at very high levels).
A fully cycled filter can change the ammonia all the fish in the tank create straight into nitrates instantly.

If your tank isn't cycled and you put fish in then for a few weeks the ammonia will really build up and will often cause fish deaths. You can cycle a tank with fish as the ammonia source, or with pure household ammonia (the type you clean with...). Like I said, please read the links in my signature so you can decide which cycle you want to do. In short fishin cycling is harder for you as a keeper as it needs ALOT of water changes but it does mean you can get fish straight away, fishless requires only one water change, it often takes 6-8weeks before you can get fish but it does mean they are never exposed to toxins and when you do buy fish you can get a full tank full instead of just one or two.

So back to stocking, as a new keeper one big bit of advice is PATIENCE! lol. Please don't rush into buying more fish, plan your tank with help and advice from members on here. They'll be able to help you get the type of tank you like (active, peacful, colourful, stunning) and they'll do it without compromising the fishes natural behaviours and health as we've experienced ALOT of different fish between us all.

I suggest you take the paradise fish back for store credit and then come back and decide what cyle you want to do. Then ask for a bit of help getting your stocking idea together. Also we'll try and find you some more fish shops in your area if the one you're currently going to doesn't have a great variety of fish.
Also you will need a liquid based water testing kit and we could do with knowing the dimensions of the tank. :)
