My girlfriend has just set up a bowl with three small fantail goldfish and I think that one of them has a nasty parasite problem.

I noticed last night what looked like a large worm protruding from it's rear, which at first I though was a bit of s**t, and then I got a phone call this morning to say that she had noticed a small green coloured creature in the bowl.

I said for her to try and catch and remove it but when she phoned back she said that it had attached itself to one of the fish. I'm not sure of the exact size of the parasite but as I say it was a sort of green colour and what looked like miniature fin like growths at the back.

She tried removing the fish from the water and removing the parasite herself and managed to do so but struggled in the process as the thing constantly moved over the fish body.

Does anyone have any idea what this thing was and if there are any treatments which can be bought to treat the bowl.

Thanks
James

Hi James I dont know much about gold fish but here is a very useful gold fish forum they may be able to help you all with this www.goldfishparadise.com try this out and let me know if they help you out any they was very helpful to me when I took om a couple of gold fish.

I'm not sure what that could be never had case like it. I would seek help from an aquatic shop especially the one that you got the fantails from. You might have to change the water more often with them being in a bowl i would recommend a small aquarium easier to keep clean and filteration much better once tank has cycled and they growth wont be stunted.
