I made this yesterday (inspired by Sam's bracket he made for his own tank a while back) and had some interest in how I made it. My previous instructions were ok, but figured I'd turn it into a nice step-by-step howto :)

Ok. Heres a break down of parts and steps :) Bare in mind this is sorta specific to my tank and may need to be altered to suit your own. You can get the general idea and customise it for your own setup!

Parts:

1x Interpet T5 Compact Starter Unit - 36W
1x Interpet T5 Daylight Plus 36W tube
1x Arcadia 15w Reflector (450mm/18" long)
2x 10mm M3 bolts (philips head)
2x M3 Nylock nuts (nylon threaded to lock the nut in place)
4x Washers
2x 400mm x 40mm strip aluminium sheet (I used 1mm thick scrap from an old light reflector)

Tools required:

Drill
3.5mm drill bit
Pliers
Philips screw driver
Marker pen
Some sticky tape/gaffer tape

Step 1:

Take the strips of aluminium and mark out a centre point at 200mm in from the each end and 20mm in from the edge.

Line both strips up and tape together.

Drill a hole through the centre mark you have drawn. You should be able to drill through both as they are taped together.

Un-tape the strips.

Step 2:

Measure in from both ends and mark points at 20mm and 40mm. These are your fold lines.

Lie one of the strips on the edge of a flat surface (I used the edge of my tank) and line up the 40mm mark. Making sure its square, bend it 90 degrees.

Turn the strip over and line up the 20mm in the same fashion. Bend it over. You should end up with an end that looks like a sort of "Z" shape.

Repeat for the other end of the strip and then repeat for the second strip.

Now we're going to fit the strips to the tank. Place one end of a strip onto the glass, using the "Z" shape to secure it. Bend the "Z" shape down over the lip of the tank so it is gripping onto the lip of the tank.

Repeat for all other ends, making the strips bend in an arch:

Step 3:

Take one of the mounting clips that came with the Interpet light.

Thread one bolt through the bottom of the clip, then thread a washer onto the bolt. Thread the bolt through the reflector and another washer onto the top.

Thread one of the aluminium strips onto the bolt so that it is at a right-angle to the light reflector.

Step 4:

Screw a nut onto the bolt till its finger tight. Using the pliers to grip the nut, use the screw driver and start to tighten the bolt.

Leave the clip/bolt assembly so that it is still a little loose and can be adjusted.

Repeat steps 3 and 4 for the other clip.

Step 5:

Put the light tube into the clips and get an idea for where you want the clips to be positioned. Remove the tube and tighten the two bolts.

Step 6:

Fit the light carefully over your tank, making sure the ends of the strips grip onto the tank. Obviously don't have the light plugged in while doing this. Safety first!

The curve of the aluminium strip and weight of the light tube and fixture should mean there is enough pressure to hold the ends in place. Make sure its well blanaced and not heavy at one end or it might tip.
