Hi,

I have an 8 UK gallon tank which is currently cycling. When cycling is complete I want to add a small group of tetra's and a or a small group of small catfish. Am I limited to just Cory's & Oto's or are there some other species that I could choice from?

Thanks for reading my post.

in a 8 gallon I think you have hit the nail on the head...

There is not a lot else that will fit.

A group of 5 pygmy corys and 5 small tetras and your done.

Get some palnts in there and it'll look great ;)

you could aim for this kind of setup....

and add some golden white cloud minnows or two platys

corys are not for new tanks (well most catfish) three months minimum really for them to thrive, this time lets the water conditions stable out and the tank to mature a little.

as for tetras AVOID neons, cardinals and rummy nose tetras.

they are not beginners fish, or for new tanks

Cardinals and neons was the first ever fish i put in my tank

Not one dead and its been a year

There seems to be a lot of misinformation going around these days.

I can't speak for tetras myself, but as for corys, there's nothing wrong with putting them in a newly established tank, as long as it's cycled. I'm always moving my corys around and, as long as I move enough beneficial bacteria with them, not a thing goes wrong.

I also move cories around a lot and set up a new tank when I wanted a place for some Corydoras hastatus to breed. After 6 months in that tank the hastatus still look fine to me.
