Hi All (I also cross-posted this in the chit-chat forum),

With our new higher wattage lighting installed for the plants, we are now having some mild algae problems that weren't present before (go figure).

We have room to add another fish (the golden nugget plec is only 2.5" right now - and will be moved to bigger home when he's bigger, the rest of the fish are 1.5" to 2.5" currently)... I was wanting to add something that will eat algae (not the plants), but will take sinking food once the algae's under control, is not too expensive, hardy and won't get too big for our tank. Suggestions? Thanks!

Some have suggested a BN plec, what are thoughts on those?

Otos? Thoughts?

Anyone know anything about Candy Stripe Plecs?

Thanks!

Id strongly reccomend bristlenose plecs, fro what ive seen of them they dont stop eating algae all day. They stay small and quite active.

I have both a BN and a candy stripe. The BN will be excellent for eating algae and it won't be too shy. My Candy stripe however only comes out at night and I don't think it eats the algae. There are loads of other L plec that stay small and will eat algae, but the BN is the cheapest and will do a really good job at munching the algae.

Cool, thanks. Looks like I am off to my fav fish store to get a BN plec this weekend!
