Hi,

I have noticed recently that there seem to be lots of what seem to be small air balls on the rock and corals. I have not really noticed these before and they almost seem to be metalic when the light reflects of them.

I was wondering whatcauses them and if they are problematic?

Any advice would be welcome.

are they like green beads? or simple(?) bubbles... the green beads should be removed with caution as if they pop they will cause an out break.. the bubbles will turn into thick green algae if left as they are (IME)

Could possibly be excess oxygen from the photosynthetic algae on the surface of the rock, the algae may be producing oxygen faster than it can be dissolved into the water, which is why it forms little bubbles.

Have you done a water change tonight? if so, its just excess Oxygen from the surface agitation.

I've noticed tiny air bubbles forming on the surface of some of the ocean rock I added to the tank a few weeks back. I was wondering what was causing this? Is it a sign that the bacteria is colonizing the rock?

Do you have a protein skimmer running in the tank? If so, check to make sure its not releasing microbubbles back into the tank.

My skimmer is in the sump and no microbubbles are reintroduced to the display tank. It must be the beginnings of algae formation or something like that then.
