My dog came in from the garden this evening with a small slug (about 3mm) on his back after he had been troughing through the undergrowth he [the dog] was right next to the tank so I picked the slug off and threw him [the slug] in. The tank was in near darkness as the light was out but I saw the clown loaches get very interested in something for a moment and then all was still(ish) and I presume the slug is now no more.

Are slugs any good for live food and more to the point, are they good for my fish? I presume any live grubs are good protein and eminently edible but I worry about introducing parasites.

I'm pretty sure your fish will be ok but stop an think how it got in there. if a slug can get in all sorts may be able to get in so i would think about some sort of covering.

i wold suggest cleaning your filter in the morning in case there was anything, the filter would of take it out over night.

I think the Op threw the slug in, as it came into the house on his dog

'Twould be a brave slug that went in of it's own accord without some sort of magic, anti-fish armament! No, this slug had little choice and was plucked from my ageing border collie and dumped unceremoniously into the jaws of my six clown loaches. I trust it died well.

Slugs are quite bad for fish I heard, also if it survives it might get jealous of all the snails and their shells, then it will probably kill itself from depression anyway.
