im not sure if its fin rot or, its been almost a month since i kind of noticed his fin looking wierd..

a month ago he had fungus on his fin, so i treated him with maracyn and now its gone, but after that his TOP fin seems smaller than usual, but im not sure becasue this is my first angel.

can anyone help to tell me if it is? its been a month since he was cured from fungus, so its been a while

if its a fin rot, its a very slow fin rot, and he acts completely fine
i also read that with fin rot the fins are usually frayed and just beaten up looking, however with my angel its very even, so thats what makes me unsure.

also, do his attenna things at the bottom (not sure what they are) look short?

My angelfish just recovered from fungus also. I'm now adding Melafix to the tank to help them regrow the fins that got damaged. This is my first time having to do this, so I don't know if it'll work, but I've heard good things about Melafix. It's an "all natural" product, so not as toxic as medications. You might want to try it.

By the way, the attenna things at the bottom are called ventral fins, or pelvic fins. Do they look shorter than they were? Some angel's ventral fins are shorter than others  .

I guess I don't have enough experience with this kind of thing to say for sure one way or the other.

A question for you... has the top fin been getting smaller since being cured of fungus, or has it remained the same size in the last month? If it's slowly getting smaller, I'd say there is still a problem due to ?? . If that's the case, you need to determine the cause and treat it properly. If it's stayed the same size since being cured of the fungus, my thought is that it might not grow out on its own, or of it does it will be very slowly. In this case I think you should definitely try the Melafix to try and speed up the recovery. No guarantees. :shifty:

Perhaps if you answered my question you might get more opinions on what the problem is and how to correct it. ;)
lol sorry, completely forgot.

it has been getting smaller after i treated him with fungus.

all i know is that once the fungus was cured, i saw a tiny little area, where the fungus ate away his top fin. after that, its been getting smaller slowly, like really slow.

how could i tell what he is still sick of?

Hi panboy :)

Often bacterial infections are mistaken for fungus. Columnaris bacteria look very much like it. And sometimes these infections act fast, other times much more slowly.

In addition, there is another bacteria called Aeromonas which often sets in as a secondary infection.

Maracyn will cure the Columnaris, but not an Aeromonas infection. That's why I usually recommend a treatment of the antibiotic Kanamycin, or the use of both Maracyn and Maracyn2 used in combination to knock out both at the same time. This is sold as Kanacyn by Aquatronics and as KanaPlex by Seachem.

It could be possible that your fish is still infected with the Aeromonas bacteria.
