Right I was rearranging some stuff in the tank to do a rescape and decided to take out a big bit of slate the style that goes on top house roofs. Anyway I was draining it of over the tank when suddenly half of it broke off and dropped into the tank hitting the back. Now I cant see if its cracked the glass or something as I have a background wallpaper on it, I have though felt with my finger and it feels like it has chipped it.

Its a big tank so moving it will be hard unless I empty it. Its 10mm thick glass btw and no sign of leaks. What should I do is it ok do you think or should I empty most of the water and try and move it to see?

Thanks

Can you not take the backing off and try and look that way? Have you an adequate temporary home for the fish? I do hope it's ok! Like a worst fear coming to light.

phew looks like god is on my and my fishes side, I decided to do a 80/90% water change I know harsh but it was the only way I could move the tank to see the back. And its just a little chip hoping this is not a problem.

Maybe you should put a thin layer of silicone over it just to protect it against the pressure of the water..
Glad it isn't cracked tho ;-)

Even if it is just a chip there is a high chance that it will crack at some point. Tanks are under an immense amount of pressure constantly and any weak points will cause issues.

If it were me I would be ordering a new tank ASAP!

Agreed with this. Even moving the tank will probably weaken the point but without seeing the damage I guess we can't judge as well as you can looking at it.

Oh dear, that sounds horrendous! I'd bet you'll never be confident about that tank ever again.

Left field suggestion but would a glass repair company (Autoglass) be able to repair it???

Haha, exactly! With a jingle like that, how could it go wrong?!
