I have 2 bala/silver sharks which are about 31/2" long (not including tail). I've had them for several months now but they seem to be getting more nervous and skittish as they get older. -_-

I know, or think that I am quite heavily stocked already but would getting a couple more make any difference - I am aware that they are a shoaling fish.

If I get some more will 2 be enough? Will they need to be the same size or can they be smaller? (most ones I see for sale are around 11/2 - 2")

Thanks

You are heavily stocked, and as your fish grow, it'll get worse of course.

Bala Sharks are a notoriously skittish species, as they get larger, it shows more as a big fish flashing around the tank is more obvious then a small one. Wait until they are 12"/300mm!

I think you need to thin out your tank somewhat before considering any new fish. They probably would be better with a couple more, but seriously, you are overstocked assuming all your fish are small.

Thanks Lateral. :flowers:

I have also asked in Chitchat about my stocking level out of interest and because of this. They appear to be of the opinion that it is border line / overstocked which confirms what I thought. I really do want happy fishes and would like to address problems sooner rather than later.

I also dont want to be someone who takes fish back to the LFS once they have outgrown their set-up, I want to have the set-up right and see them all die of old age with a smile on their faces.

What do the LFS's do with all these larger specimens anyway???? A bit worrying I think. -_-
