I was reading those threads about the 10g nano tank with "fish only with live rock".

I was wondering if having a salt water 10g tank would need a skimmer. I couldn't find any information in those threads.

If a 10g wouldnt need a skimmer, then would a 20g be ok without a skimmer?

IMO, on a 10 gallon, I would stick with weekly 10% water changes. That should be enough nutrient export, tho', having a refugium would help too. There is no correct answer on this and you will find the posts split down the middle. SH

up to a 20gallon i think you can get away with weekly water changes, anything more than 20 and you'll need a skimmer, a 2nd hand one would do

I had a 20 gallon long, with corals, a true perc, and a firefish goby. it was fine with out a skimmer. I also did have a refugium though. Some people also make their own "home-made" refugiums. they buy a filter with a large box part and do some modifications. Check the forum about marine accessories.
